Aerospace Engineering Student

This book is really designed for a beginner level class in astrodynamics. I used it for my beginner class, and I found the book to be extremely helpful. Now, taking graduate level courses in astrodynamics, I still use Wiesel's book! When I need to look up basic formulas, I use this book often. If you're looking for a more advanced book in astrodynamics, look into Vallado's Fundamentals of Astrodynamics and Applications. However, for the beginner level, Wiesel does an excellent job of explaining the material and presenting the mathematics behind the equations.

I am an aerospace engineering student at the undergraduate level and used this text in an astrodynamics course. I felt that the author did a good job developing the fundamentals needed but lacked some important derivations that would have been usefull at times. I also enjoyed some of the non-technical aspects of this book as well, such as the sections devoted to our solar system and its characteristics.

I used this book along with Fundamentals of Astrodynamics by Roger Bate, Donald Mueller, and Jerry White - which has been used at my university for more than twenty-five years. I would suggest purchasing both books at once as doing so will give both a modern viewpoint of the subject as well as the derivations needed to understand the basics.

Good introductory and reference book

This book is easy to read and contains several good exercises. Ideal for undergrads looking to learn about orbital mechanics, attitude control, and trajectories. Also excellent as a quick reference for more advanced students. The only complaint I have about the book is that some of the diagrams are not very well drawn, which can be somewhat annoying, especially if it's for a homework problem!

Great ecoregions maps plus more

This is the most relevant atlas available for ecological studies. The amount of data in this is incredible. Im constantly looking for maps on the internet of ecoregions on a global level, and now I have it all in one book. There are maps in this book I never even think about, but seeing them puts so much more into perspective for me about the world we live in.

You think you know the Warhammer 40,000 universe?Think again

This giant, over sized book is a comprehensive account of the first twenty years of The Sabbat Worlds Crusade. The Imperial Guard, Space Marines, and Navy fight crushing battles against the dread menace of Chaos. This is detailed/narrated by Antonid Biota, a senior tactician on the front line, assigned to the staff of Lord General Van Voytz. Biota has been in the thick of the combat right from the beginning and is able to tell it like it is.

Illustrations abound within the covers and you will find many maps and notes. There are even copies of the Casualty Listings. Pictures, not just illustrations, show the details of the hardware and weapons used by the brave souls that hold Chaos at bay. Confidential orders are spread out for you to read. There are even detailed spreadsheets showing the layers within the Hive cites, such as Sangrel Hive (page 16). Troopers, majors, captains, ranks of all types tell about the battles they faced and the horrors they witnessed. By the end you will feel as though you were there yourself.

All the plans and politics are laid bare for all to see, such as a chart detail showing Cybon's proposed rimward expedition, circa 463, and the trailing zones of the Cabal Systems, showing the border worlds assaulted during Macaroth's initial phase in 770-771 (page 68). The Blood Pact is thoroughly explained, squadron badges are shown, and you even get to see, up close, the ships flown. (The Navy Thunderbolt, Cypra-Mundi Pattern XXI, of the One Hundred and First Pacificus Navy Elite Wing, the 'Apostles' Plane, serial 4548456, flown by Major Dario Quint, "Ace of Aces", is shown on page 82).

While not the 1st artist to take on the conceptions of light and its practical uses in art, now Flagstff, AZ. artist James Turrell has brought the perception of light in art to creative and fantastic new levels through his conceptions such as his famous "skyspaces" to "darkspaces," "blue rooms," etc. Many of his pieces offer low light level environments, some almost no light at all, still others brilliant hues of red and blue.
Like most artists, Turrell shies away from giving detailed explinations of his works so that each individual can surmise the piece for themselves. This is not necessarly the case in this work. Turrell wanted, (and did) to build a specific "skyscape" in order to view an eclipse that occurred in England. Like his other "skyscapes," Turrell took the environment and all of its factors, as well as very specific geometry, into account, so that he could construct the perfect medium through which to not just observe the eclipse, but to better magnify the light, or lack thereof, of the eclipse.
The book is a wonderful look at this process, complete with analysis and pictures of the eclipse, the "skyscape," etc. An added bonus is the cd by German composer Paul Schulze, who's approach to his music (a minimalist ambient style, normally) is a perfect match to Turrell's art.
Fans of Turrell, or those who are interested in the interplay between light, our senses, and the reality they both help us create, will find this rather short treatsie to be of invaluable use to them. A wonderfully intriguing work.

James Turrell has long been a major player in the field of light art, and visitors to the Matress Factory museum in Pittsburgh are well aware of his outstanding way of playing with art and images. This amusing meditation on an eclipse is an excellent addition to his body of work

Ignore the other guy, it's worth it.

Ignore the other review, this book is written by Rick Riordan, and is a very entertaining read. It helps offer insight into the asgardian universe and adds more story to the characters. Definitely worth the money, especially while waiting for the hammer of Thor.

This isn't a critical review, but just a note to remind everyone that this edition is indeed in the original Italian (rare to find on Amazon.com), and includes a post-script appendix not included in the original releases.
P.S., just this once, don't rent the movie. Treat yourself and see how much more you get out of it.

Italians sometimes deserve more attention

I am amazed that this novel - the most popular, the best-loved, the most imitated in Italy during the latest 20 years- is so little known abroad.
It is a very good historical novel, full of intense and fascinating characters, which can reliably belong to European Middle Age. Eco' s culture is immense: he can easily quote from Latin, ancient French or other languages. But the big mystery in this book is an ancient Greek manuscript, the book _On Comedy_ fom Aristotle's _Poetics_. It is very hard to believe that such a manuscript really existed, and, as a matter of fact, at the end of the novel it gets destroyed. A terrible loss for the main character, Guglielmo di Baskerville, but a dreadful victory for superstition and ignorance.
Tje plot is very intriguing (it is a detective story). Some friars are murdered, and nobody can understand the reason...nobody excepting Guglielmo. Who is nothing but Sherlock Holmes, while his young assistant, Adso, is nothing but Watson...

But the reference to Conan Doyle is not the real purpose of this splendid book, where you find such an enchanting gothic atmosphere as very rarely you can do. The real matter is the rescue of European culture, which nowadays seems to be overwhelmed by the so called 'globalization'.
I suggest this reading to everyone, American, Asian or African people.
The movie is not so bad...Jean-Jacques Annaud understood very well Eco's lesson. But the book is something very, very special.

Umberto Eco's masterpiece. In one of the very first editions.
A book that rich cannot be transposed in a movie.
And the best would be if one would know italian and old latin language.
Anyway, good work the movie too. Dark atmospheres: better the blu-ray edition.

I tend to think most "business books" would be much better "business articles"...but instead they say what needs be said in 10 pages in 210. A Beautiful Constraint is that rare exception; one where every page and each chapter matters and helps. Smart, insightful, and practical, this is much more than a "business book"...but a book with lessons, advice, and examples relevant to the breadth of our lives. We are all faced by constraints, whether actual or perceived. ABC provides a clear framework and POV for thinking of and approaching these constraints and turning them (and our businesses and selves along the way) into something beautiful indeed. 2 thumbs up!

Turns your enemies into your allies

This is a very, very, very good book. First it is empathetic. Barden and Morgan show they understand your pain. They acknowledge that changing the status quo -- be that denting the world, birthing your dream or simply just doing your job ain't easy. The brilliance of this book is that it turns your enemies -- be they your own demons and excuses, or more practical barriers -- into your allies. Second, it is highly practical. The authors -- through examples and thoughtful frameworks -- let you identify your constraints and imagine how they can become success factors. Thirdly, it is a vibrant and fast-paced read. I bought it as a business book, but it doesn't read it like one, and I started seeing ways the philosophy of taking constraints as inspiration applies to living life rather than just my business life. A book both to read, and to keep at hand as a manual.

Be thankful for your constraints as they will drive you to the next level

Adds to my existing Lean practice, already on my second time through this book. A worthy addition to my regular book rotation. Found the chapter "Ask Propelling Questions" useful. Discussions on uncomfortable questions, the power of bold ambitions with serious constraints, and the reward of unreasonableness got my wheels turning. But this is just part of a well articulated treatise on why limitations can be the source of our greatest achievements .

This book is a font of knowledge backed up with real examples to illustrate various points. Contains practical steps to move organizations towards having a transformation culture and away from the status quo. Didn't agree with everything that was said but made me question some of my own thinking. A great read.
