ELINE SNEL is a therapist and certified MBSR trainer and runs the Academy for Mindful Teaching in the Netherlands. Her program has been used in numerous primary schools in the Netherlands. She has recently started a pilot project in various secondary schools to teach mindfulness practices to teenagers. Wonderful book for parents to help children deal with anxiety, frustration or other issues!

This book was written to help parents with simple exercises that will teach their children a way to clear anxiety and just overthinking. But I loved the idea and bought it for myself. It comes with a CD that nicely guides you through each exercise. The writing is a discussion/explanation for parents, it is not written for children.

Mindfulness or awareness of the present is something I never learned as a child, but how incredibly useful to understand that you can change the way emotional responses control us just through awareness. While it is very individual, techniques of mindfulness can be so helpful and even have long term benefits on health.

Great little read

I am loving this book so far. I work with children who have severe emotional and behavioral issues, as well as ADHD. I have been using mindfulness exercises all school year and have noticed a great change with the kids. Sitting Still Like A Frog has been a great addition to my reading. The CD included is great as well. We have only listened to a couple of tracks, but the kids enjoy it. The CD is useful for both adults and kids, however the language fits well with the students, it is something they can relate to. This is just one of the practices I use to work with my students, but this book is a great compliment to my practice.

I listened to the tape before introducing it to my class. My children got hung up on the fact that they said stupid twice. It is a word that I tell my children they cannot use, so to hear an adult say it in mindfulness, really upset them.

I highly recommend this book to any serious student of Scripture

Very interesting book by a man who was a controversial figure in the Christian world in the mid-1900's. I Don't agree with some of Branham's theories in this book (the "Serpent seed" theory for instance); but I believe Branham was right on target with his analysis of what are the deeds and doctrine of the Nicolaitans (the ONLY two things in the New Testament that Jesus is quoted as HATING), and his description of what is the doctrine of Balaam, and the truly injurious effects these two doctrines have had on the life of the Body of Christ over the past 2,000 years. I highly recommend this book to any serious student of Scripture. And I caution any reader to definitely be ready to 'eat the chicken' and 'spit out the bones' on Branham's thoughts. When Branham is 'right', he is right on target with dazzling accuracy. And when he is wrong..... watch out....

INTRODUCTION:

My relationship with homebrewing did not get off to the best of starts. I was plenty eager and I had a lot of shiny new equipment, but an hour after returning from my first trip to the homebrew store, I felt completely and utterly baffled. I was also not in the kitchen; I was sitting on the couch in my living room with three different, slightly contradictory sets of brewing instructions laid out on the coffee table before me. My husband was tackling this new hobby with me, and neither of us had any idea where to begin or which instructions to follow or even how to move off the couch.

Once we formed a plan of action, the situation (unfortunately) did not improve. The liquid malt extract we’d purchased was roughly the consistency of tar and wouldn’t come out of the container. Our beer juice (which some, though not all, instructions mysteriously referred to as “wort”) took forever to come to a boil. And once it did, it continued to boil right over the side of the pot, extinguishing the burner’s pilot light and making a gigantic mess. My husband and I argued about whether the batch was ruined or if we could just add some more water and carry on—the first of many such stressed-out and frustration-fueled fights to follow. To date, some of our most ferocious battles as a married couple have happened while brewing beer.

Better Beer Brewing!

I love this book! I used it as a companion to thekitchn.com's Beer School (also by Emma Christensen). Very complete and detailed, plus beautiful pictures. The thing that most distinguishes this book from other very good brewing books is that Emma gives recipes for (and excellent reasons for) brewing 1 gallon batches. I would never have gotten into brewing if I had to start with a 5 gallon batch, but I have already made two different beers and am looking forward to making more!

Not what I expected, but pleasantly surprised.

It was not at all what I expected. I was looking for a somewhat technical homebrewing book; this book is mostly recipes and elementary concepts -- but it made me really excited to brew a wider variety of styles. The four beers I've brewed based off these principles have turned out wonderfully.

Nice intro and terminology. The steps mentioned lack detail and visuals. This is helpful to the very beginner but shortly into the reading it becomes too basic even for those who have never brewed before .

5th Edition... perfect.

When compared to the newest, 9th edition, this 5th edition puts that one to shame! And, rightfully so! For example:

I could NOT believe the definitions in 9th edition book! They are supposed to be 'legal' definitions! Definitions of words when they are used in laws and Courts, not as defined in Websters which is everyday use.

Fence, for example in the 5th edition is:

A hedge, structure, or partition, erected for the purpose of inclosing a piece of land, or to divide a piece of land ito distinct portions, or to separate two contiguous estates. (and more)

In the 9th edition, it does NOT mention the definition shown above, but goes on ad nauseum to define how drugs and stolen goods can be sold to a fence. Not one mention of the "fence" as it pertains to real property. NOT ONE WORD!!!

However, the new Editor's name, in gilded letters, LARGE gilded letters, is on the leather bound cover: Bryan A. Garner, Editor in Chief.

Don't waste your money on the 9th or 8th edition.

I sought out this product because it is the last edition before the NWO began changing the dictionary. If you don't believe it, compare the definitions for the USA. The USA or US now ceases to exist legally. Now I must get a ninth edition for the new words that have since been created.
This particular book is nicely padded, has a gorgeous cover, and in near perfect shape except for the damage described by seller. Seller nicely wrapped the product for shipping and it arrived within the shipping parameters. I would buy from this seller again since he gave an accurate description and knows how to wrap an item for shipping.

Great and Not Overrated

I'm currently a 1L law student and have used this pocket dictionary a ton since I first got it.

As a student I have access to the online edition through Nexis but I've actually found this to be easier since the search tool is not always as good as you would expect and just getting to the online version can take longer than opening up this book most of the time.

I also am more of a kinetic learner and have found that the print edition helps me to retain better. Plus I just love books so it's more enjoyable to me to look it up in a book than online.

Definitely recommend it. I've found it useful and more importantly more enjoyable than an online version.

A Pioneering Start

Many people think that I am too critical of Wymore's book. That may be true. To preface my comments, Wymore's book is an excellent, pioneering start to a challenging problem space - a rigorous mathematical formalism for the engineering of systems, and by extension a science of systems. Wymore used the mathematics of his time - a discrete, set-theoretic approach that still permeates, indeed dominates, model based systems engineering today.

After decades of experience in systems engineering - and specifically model based systems engineering - had Wymore used category theory, with its higher order logic and internal proof systems, the conceptual clarity could have been more explicit - and some of the more controversial conceptualizations (like cotyledons, and models of discontinuous and continuous systems) refined. Today, the controversy regarding mathematical foundations for systems engineering continue. Many argue their points from a philosophical position, thinking a mathematical formalism impossible. Yet they never offer a rigorous (but Godelian incomplete) proof of their positions.

A category-theoretic formalism for systems modelling languages - such as Petri-Nets or SysML - could take us so much further, not only for traditional, hierarchical systems, but for recurrent, non-linear, network coupled systems (complex systems) as well.

Wymore's book is akin to learning Newtonian mechanics before approaching quantum mechanics.

Difficult but rewarding

This is a difficult and rigorous book. The insights it contains are available nowhere else that I am aware of. With all the emphasis these days on 'Model Driven Architecture', this text richly deserves to be revisited and perhaps revised to match the latest UML and OCL notations.

As an example, when going from Use Cases to design, a frequent piece of advice is to consolidate the Use Case behavior into a smaller set of state machines rather than building one state machine per Use Case. But exactly how do you do this? And how can you be sure that the resulting state machine is equivalent to the original Use Cases? Wymore's text answers this question, and many others which are normally treated with hand-waving in other texts.

Don't buy this book unless you are willing to learn and apply a non-mainstream mathematical modeling language.

Good book, sadly neglected theory

Wayne Wymore has been working on providing systems engineering with a rigorous mathematical foundation for the last 40 years or so, and his work has been sadly neglected for most of that time. MBSE is a more recent publication, which seeks to set down in one place all of the theory Wymore has developed over the years. The book itself is extremely dense, quite terse in places, and very mathematically intense. However, the insights that you will gain into system requirements and system design are invaluable. Even if you don't use Wymore's theory in day-to-day practice, his mathematical framework will give you a context within which you can understand the huge variety of other (often less well-defined) system design methodologies out there. Highly recommended.
