Barbara Carkenord, CBAP, is President and co-founder of B2T Training, an organization that developed the first comprehensive business analysis training program in North America. This training and business analysis certification program has been a model for other training organizations. Ms. Carkenord has over 20 years of business analysis experience gained in various industries such as manufacturing, insurance, and banking. She possesses detailed knowledge and experience in many structured approaches and methodologies and is a core team member of the IIBA BABOK creation committee. Her areas of expertise include business analysis, high-level design, quality assurance, and project management. She earned her MBA from University of Michigan and began her career in the information technology area as a programmer, systems analyst, business analyst, and project manager. good reference book

Good book for an applications developer want to be business analyst. This book is easy to read and is concrete. It depicts the responsibilities of a Business Analyst, and points out the skills I need to improve or to learn to make a transition to that profession.

What a Business Analyst Does

This is easily the best organized and best written book in my Business Analysis library. A couple are more amusing and a couple are more challenging, but this is the best overall. Well worth the price.

This is not a book about softtware development. It is about the analyst role (business analyst, systems analyst, business process analyst) and the range of ways that an analyst can deliver value. This book would be ideal for a development manager to use to argue for analyst positions on a development team or to write a job description for a business analyst. Experienced analysts will find it valuable when writing a resume, practicing interview questions, or writing annual goals -- because it reminds the analyst of all the little things that business analysis contributes. New analysts will find it valuable to identify new skills to develop and hints on how to handle the enduring challenges of the role.

Very informative book

I have read the first few chapters and already find it very useful and informative.

The author is obviously very experienced and has included useful annecdotes to back up the reasoning behind her theories.

I am only just starting out in the BA industry and it is re-assuring to know that a BA's job is exactly what I had expected it to be. It is not going to be something overly complicated. The book puts things into the right perspective and gives a proper understanding of what the job expectations are.

Book content is good but it is in black and white

The book content is good.

But, beware! This book is not in printed in color! The online preview suggests the book is printed in color. But it is not. The paper version is printed in gray scale. Of particular concern are the diagrams for four projects. The text does not even mention the actual color of the parts. Also, the screenshots of the EV3 brick LCD are almost illegible.

I'm giving the book one star because the Amazon description does not mention that the book is not in color. I find this deceptive.

Good Book but only BLACK AND WHITE, not color as shown on webpage

I purchased this book for my grandson who is ill. When I looked at the sample pages on the website the illustrations were shown in full color. However, when my grandson started reading the book, it was all in black and white.

I rated it 3-stars because the information is good and well presented.

I am very disappointed in Amazon that they would not only mislead potential buyers on what they are going to get, but they also ignored a review from almost a month ago pointing out this misleading webpage.

I haven't started reading the book yet, but wanted to let everyone know that the Kindle edition is in color. Perhaps it doesn't appear in color on a Black and White Kindle, but it's in color on my computer and iPad Kindle apps.

I hate when writers do this! The whole story is a great big build up, and then.....IT ENDS ABRUPTLY!!!!
At least take your readers to the next day. Does George and Diane finally get divorced? What happens between Vanessa, Nico, and George? Tell us SOMETHING!!!!

Great Book for Contractors and Owners Alike

I've relied on this book as a construction consultant for over 10 years, using it to help others resolve difficult construction disputes. I've also recommended it to owners, contractors, architects, engineers, and attorneys. Although it is written primarily to help contractors organize, assemble, document and present information to allow them to be paid for changes to construction projects I have found it equally helpful when owners use the techniques described in the book to analyze change orders and claims. Pinnell describes methods and processes that are fair to all parties and often result in reasonable settlements to knotty construction problems without resorting to the courtroom. My only disappointment is that I didn't write the book myself. Congratulation, Steve, on a nice piece of work. If everyone would follow the recommendations contained in the book us construction consultants would not have much work.

Samuel E. Martin received his undergraduate degree and master's degree in Oriental languages from the University of California, Berkeley, and his Ph.D. in linguistics from Yale University. Don't buy or even look at this book

Wow! I bought this book at Barnes and Noble a few months ago for my trip to Korea to brush up and learn some proper spelling / expand vocabulary.

Background: I am Korean, born in Korea - Korean was my first language. I moved to America at 4 years old and kind of lost my Korean (mom still speaks to me in Korean, and I use it if I have to). Korean has a simple alphabet with set rules for pronounciation with some acceptions. As I could read, write, and speak Korean as a child, I have the basics of the basics down and am familiar with how things should sound. I need to work on expanding vocab, proper spelling for words, and improve on sentence structure.

Getting back to the book, as soon as I went to the first lesson there was a pronounciation error. It says "ae" (ㅐ) is pronounced like "a" in "cap," "sack," or "ham." WHOA, red flag. This is basic: "ae" or "애" pretty much sounds the same as what he used as "e" (ㅔ) pronounced like Spanish e (eh) or e in "met". It should have explained this way that ㅐ and ㅔ have the same pronounciation. I just saw that and my mind was blown because people are buying this and learning incorrectly how to pronounce a vowel that is so commonly used. I have attached an image of this (the first and second page of Lesson 1, pg 8 and 9). If you look at my image, it says to pronounce "새" as "sae". Yes, this is how you would write sae in English, but "ae" should be pronounced as "eh" (just like "ㅐ" or like the "e" in "leg"). If the reader tried to pronounce 새 (sae) the way the book describes with sound of "a" in "cap" or "ham", the reader would develop bad habit of pronouncing "ㅐ" completely incorrectly. Korean does not even have a vowel sound like "a" in "cap" or "sack". This "a" sound is actually a sound Koreans have a hard time pronouncing when speaking English AS they would use ㅐ or ㅔ (eh sound) when writing "cap" or "sack" and end up pronouncing it as "cehp" or "sehk".

I have no idea who this Samuel learned Korean from. If he learned from a Korean or Koreans, there must of been a huge misunderstanding, and the Koreans must have just got what he was saying so he thought how to pronounce things was correct when he is so wrong... and he wrote an effing book about it WOWW. Did no Korean person proof it though? There are so many Korean people everywhere to ask.... I mean.... before a book is published.... shouldn't... a Korean look at the book and edit it?Safe assumption... going by his name, Samuel Martin and his incorrect teaching for pronounciation, he is not a native speaker. I just can't believe this guy wrote and published a book that is teaching how to pronounce Korean incorrectly to I don't know how many people - how awful. Samuel E. Martin, I am sure he has a huge Korean vocabulary (as he wrote this awful book) and can communicate in Korean, but he's got the basics - the M effing basics - wrong, and he is not the guy to learn Korean from. He also wrote 최 as "choe" - this is actually a really popular Korean last name, but he should have wrote it like "choi" - the common way. He DID get the pronounciation on this right though (he described "oe" sounds like "e" in wet in this case - so it would be pronounced as "cheh") - not quite exactly how natives would pronounce 최 (choi), but very similar and good for a new learner to be understood.

Bottom line, don't do it. Don't get this sorry book. I am mad that I paid $13 for this. I don't trust it, and I wouldn't even want to give it away for someone to incorrectly learn. How sad.

Compact and useful

As another reviewer said, the title is deceptive . . . you can't learn any foreign language "quickly and effortlessly in a few hours," as the subtitle of this book promises. But this book is a compact and exceptionally useful handbook of the most essential aspects of Korean. It has 47 "lessons" that are very short (short enough to digest one in about 15-20 minutes of study each) and cover individual topics such as "where things are" (inside, outside, left side, behind, etc.) or "honorifics" or "what the weather looks like." These individual lessons allow a reader to dip into a particular topic of interest and get quick answers without being forced to read all the prior lessons. The biggest downside of this book is that it has no audio (no CD, no online audio recordings). But if you are using Rosetta Stone to learn Korean, this book is an excellent accompaniment--and that is why I give the book 5 stars. If you use it together with Rosetta Stone Korean, you will indeed learn Korean very quickly and logically, as I did.

The misnomers in the title, of course, are references to speaking Korean quickly and effortlessly in a few hours...I don't think anyone can do that with any language, even an easier-to-learn (for English speakers) language like Spanish! Still, the author is Samuel E. Martin, a name I've known since graduate school studies in Japanese - his name was on much of what we learned. So I see he's brought his meticulousness and compassionate approach to Korean as well; this is a strong selling point for me.

The pronunciation guide comes at the front, though, and after that you are on your own. Even though all entries are written in Hangul and abcs's, Korean pronunciation requires a little review before getting started...thus, this is not a speak on the run travel book; it is a bit more of a textbook. But probably a great place to begin your Korean studies! I was sent a free copy of this for my review.

Helen MacInnes one of the best!

Years ago, I read all of the Helen MacInnes books, and now I have a chance to read them again! Her writing is so intelligent, the characters are well-mannered, but human enough that the reader can relate. The suspense is superb and well-developed. Helen takes us to the most beautiful places in Europe and makes us feel like we're at the same table in the sidewalk cafe! I would recommend for anyone interested in suspense and intrigue.

This is a very steamy short science fiction romance. The story moves quickly. I really enjoyed it!

I noticed a few editing errors. The story felt a little squished with the cyborg gaining awareness and feelings but it worked out ok.

He brings Rhodes, his companions and his successors to life by drawing from diaries and letters, and sheds new light on Rhodes’s homosexuality. About the Author
Robin Brown has published 14 books across a range of genres – natural history, biography, fiction and history – mostly with African themes. He also created, produced, directed and wrote Nature Watch, ITV’s most successful natural history series, consisting of 68 programmes, all in the British top 20. He has produced some 50 specials for the BBC, National Geographic and Discovery, including ManEaters of Tsavo (with David Attenborough) and the award-winning In the Company of Whales. His first novel, When the Woods became the Trees, was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize, and his book Marco Polo: The Incredible Journey has been sold to five countries and is presently the primer on the subject in Brazilian schools. Robin is an experienced speaker and a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, where he lectures regularly on books and films with conservation themes.

History brought to life by a Englishman of statue.

History as written here is exciting because we are intimately linked to people, events and places.
Names of people we have some awareness of, a road or suburb or town associated with them or events we are familiar with and linked to persons we have read about in other contexts, all come together in this history. That C J Rhodes associated with or had contact with writers across the spectrum; books we've read both as youngsters and adults, and the deep influence he had on development here in SA, in places like Kimberley, Johannesburg, Cape Town and Rhodesia, where we have lived or visited or been schooled. I have retired to Modderfontein where the dynamite factory was established for the gold mines, possibly with Rhodes' influence, brings it even closer to my life and memories, along with many millions of other South Africans

Concise, quick resource material for special tests.

With the voluminous amount of "special tests" out there, this book is a concise, quick resource material to gauge effectivity of common orthopedic tests employed. As mentioned, it is evidence based and it grades the tests for merit regarding its sensitivity/specificity in ruling in/out specific orthopedic conditions. The book includes step by step written instruction with pictures in performing the tests to standardize the procedure. It also includes CD for reference.

Great book

This book gets straight to the point and pours over numerous conditions and what examination or cluster of examination techniques have been proven to test what they are supposed to test. Many of the best evidence based examination tests shown in this book unfortunately are probably hardly ever used. I look forward to using this book from now on.
