Very easy for kids to self teach

I have 2 children, aged 6 and 9. Both breezed through the first book in under a month. This second book is a bit more challenging for them, introducing the left hand, basic chords, and some more musical notation. The songs are all familiar and follow the same easy to read format as the first book, with keyboard stickers from A (ant) through to G (giraffe).

The only thing I don't like so much about these books is that they are all very large. I understand they need to be bigger than usual for kids to easily follow along the notes, but it would be nice if they could shrink them by 20%.

For the Non-Musical

I am not a musician, nor can I read notes, or play an instrument. However, my 10-year-old granddaughter wants to learn. So, I bought a folding electronic digital keyboard piano and THIS Piano-K self-teaching book 1, and now book 2. She IS able to teach herself how to play and so excited and proud to perform her new pieces for me! I am way impressed!

Great for kids who want to start playing immediately with minimal 'drudgery'

My seven-year old son could play the entire first book within a couple of weeks, which happily is composed of popular nursery tunes he knows, so he can self-correct when his playing doesn't sound right.

He started with an instructor last week, who was impressed with his high level of commitment and interest - which I attribute to these books! Enjoying an early success at playing whole songs has been inspirational and fun for him, and he wants to keep learning.

My own childhood experience with beginner piano books was so deadly dull that I gave up quickly, but this one, heck, even I play it too.

You do have to slightly 'deface' your keyboard with stickers, but they'll peel off later, and they are the really essential part, since they teach the keys by visual association (C note is a cat face, D is a dog, E is elephant, etc) and the key labels match the note signatures visually. No need to start memorizing note placement until child is already playing successfully, and then it comes naturally at that point. The notes are also numbered to show which finger (1-5) should be playing the note.

Can't recommend enough. The Level One book teaches the right hand, treble clef, and no black keys, with basic time signatures. The Level Two book adds the left hand and bass clef, with some black keys and additional theory. After these two books, children will be able to transition easily into more complicated lesson series.

This reads like a thesis

I would recommend this book stay in the professional field for the experts looking for corriculum, data, and findings. I purchased this book because the Occupational Therapist my 2 year old visits weekly suggested I read up on "The Clumsy Child."
I found this book on Amazon. It reads more like a Master's Thesis than it does a book to help parents understand their children who suffer from clumsiness. It defined some things for me that I was not fully understanding, but I didn't find it helpful as a parent relating to a Clumsy Child.

EMDR (and like modalities) are the ONLY way to heal resistent trauma

Wow, this other reviewer hasn't even read the book and is dissing it like he knew what he was talking about! EMDR and similar modalities are the ONLY way to heal resistant trauma. My guess is the "reviewer" got someone who thought she was an EMDR therapist instead of someone who actually knows what she is doing with EMDR. In my own search this is what happened way too many times. Therapists advertise as EMDR trained and then do nothing. (Guess that is a trigger point for me) Most of the healing I had done with EMDR I had to do myself because of the negative view most psychologists have for EMDR. On the other hand, these same psychologists can offer only behavior training because that is measurable (a big word in the pseudo sciences). A good EMDR specialist will actually HEAL the trauma instead of just getting the sufferer back to work still experiencing the terror of the trauma. This book and a few others are actually the cutting edge of trauma therapy. My last accusation is that psychologists normally don't do EMDR because it is so effective that they can't drag out the process and make lots of money doing nothing!

Why is the Kindle version of this book only $1.65 cheaper than the hardcover? I thought ebooks were supposed to be considerably less expensive.
