Start putting a value on your SEO and other hard to measure metrics.

I strongly encourage anyone who is serious about learning more about their web strategy to review this book. I work with a leading web consulting company in the automotive consultant, and I found the information laid out to be very relevant, and a the book presented a strong roadmap for anyone managing their internet advertising- whether alone or with a 3rd party vendor.

The book works hard to assign values and create meaningful KPI's for internet marketing. While each user must ultimately come up with their own metrics, the book shows you how you can begin to assess the value of hard to evaluate items including SEO and Social. Clearly, the author did his homework here, and shows this by presenting clearly laid out cases with data rather then speculation.

This book should be required reading in the industry, and hopefully it will inspire you to get insight by calculating your own numbers.

Mr. Flint and his associate provide clear, concise focus! Cutting edge and sharp!
His formulas for selling based on themes such as "moneyball", "rubic's cubes", "dragon tamers", and "google whisperers", bring familiar focus to keep you reading. Jim's trivia questions as the chapters begin are fun! Soon you realize they set up the content. His excellent summaries and thorough bibliography keep the message open for easy future access.
He brings it home with vignettes of conversations between dealers and himself. These dialogues suggest practical solutions to different situations!

Outstanding book that is exceptionally well written. Do not underestimate the precise, lucid prose, as there
are many themes woven into the millionaire guide. Most notably are the personal, business, and
philosophical tenets brought forward with a humorous touch and clear tone. The personal experiences
that are recaptured help the reader to develop an identification with the author. Then business experiences
develop a real life scenario on establishing success. Best of all the underlying philosophy is clear: be attuned
and aware of the environment around you. A great guide for becoming aware of the "behind the scenes" operation of

Think of yourself as a teacher first and foremost

I read this book in under 24 hours, as it was so interesting. I love John Spiers' writing because he always brings such a unique perspective to the things he discusses.

Perish Your Publisher was a very inspirational read. Upon finishing, I immediately sent a copy to a friend of mine who is a budding writer.

A lot of would-be writers have the idea that you need to sit at a desk in isolation and write your first great work before the world will take notice of you. The model outlined in Perish Your Publisher, in which you teach your way into a career as a writer, seems a lot more realistic.

As a former teacher myself, I see the value in this method ... the combination of teaching & writing is a very powerful strategy when it is aimed at helping others solve problems.

The trouble with many writers is they are too focused on their own thing, their creative vision, such that they don't have time to help others. And that's why nobody reads their books -- because they are self-centered.

John Spiers has published an immensely successful book on import / export (How Small Business Trades Worldwide: Your Guide to Starting or Expanding a Small Business International Trade Company Now) and now he follows up with Perish Your Publisher. His books are successful because they are aimed at helping others lead better lives.

And I think that's the power of the teaching / writing model. Anybody who wants to start or cement their career as a writer should: 1) buy Perish Your Publisher; and 2) find a group of people who would benefit from their help and write a book to address those needs.

It really works!

I purchased "Perish Your Publisher" to coincide with the course being offered online. I had already written my book and was looking for new ways to market it. The author offers a unique perspective for not only putting a book together but for having it sell long-term using an entrepreneurial approach in collaboration with providing courses for community colleges. This is especially ideal for those who have written or are considering writing a "how to" book or one offering any type of specialized knowledge.

After completing the book and course I began sending out proposals to colleges and within a couple weeks I was contacted by three of them to provide an online course with my book being (required) for the class! "Perish Your Publisher" illustrates a way for authors to build a (career) around their books and their knowledge! In tough economic times like these we need more books that offer practical ways for people to succeed in life. Mr. Spiers is doing his part to keep the American dream alive.

Knowledge seems good, but inconsistent book manufacture & delivery happens

While I have not finished reading the book, my post concerns inconsistent quality control in merchandise and delivery.

This is my second time purchasing this book within two weeks of receiving the first book. My first book disappeared at large park-side BBQ. I was halfway into that book. Doggone, so I quickly bought a second book.

In both cases the books arrived within 3-weeks.
My first book arrived in pristine condition.
My second book arrived in its brown envelope with bubble wrap; but the book had been handled roughly. Along its spine are 3 wrinkles and the corner of the book appears to have been dropped and now is dented.

Okay, I figure because after I read it more than once, the book may intern a few more dents.
As I read; I place post-it notes onto the inside back cover. This to mark interesting pages (I don't high lite nor do I underline).
So I opened the inside back cover to see a purple color smudged about 2 inches across.
Jeez, I thinking, "First the dents and bent spine, and now this. What is it?"
It did wipe away with a water soaked tissue, but what was it?!

As for the book, as I read up to the Government Codes chapter, the book is well written. I will finish to see if this writing quality continues.
As for the recommended publishers coming from China? Inconsistent quality issues are known to have come from China & Hong Kong.

Consistency is important to me and quality is important to me. I'd rather be known to deliver consistent quality at the expense of saving a nickle here and there. Currently I'd rather avoid China for quality concerns because my name reputation is important so as not to be tarnished by China.

Most likely I will publish in the Western Hemisphere such as Canada or U.S.A or Europe. I won't rely upon a "one-hit wonder" publication but instead I'll publish many items. Believing that everything I do is of high quality.
A dime here saved from China is not worth the price of my reputation.

As I read this second delivered book, I'm hoping to not see any further smudges. I can't trust from China what chemical the smudges consist of, so any further smudges and I'll toss the book.

I'd rather have the knowledge than to have Chinese contamination.

About the Author

Dr. Timothy Noakes is Discovery health professor of exercise and sports science at the University of Cape Town and director of the medical research council/UCT research unit for exercise science and sports medicine at the Sports Science Institute of South Africa in Newlands. Noakes received his MD from the University of Cape Town. He is a veteran of more than 70 marathons and ultramarathons. He is an editorial board member for many international sport science journals and a former president of the South African Sports Medicine Association. In 1999, he was elected as one of 22 founding members of the International Olympic Committee's Olympic Science Academy. Noakes is also a fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine. He and his wife, Marilyn Anne, reside in Cape Town, South Africa.

If you could only own one book...

I started training for a half marathon a few months ago and like everything that I do I totally immerse myself into it. So after buying some books on the various training aspects of running I came across this one. After reading the reviews on Amazon I had to buy it and it did not disappoint. I like how the book starts out with the science and biological aspects of running, for example types of muscle fibers, oxygen transport, running economy, etc. and then moves into more practical aspects of how that will affect your training. I really enjoy reading this book and it has helped me to understand the reasons behind the training modalities. I am now training for a marathon and along with my tempo runs, speed work and long runs, I have included this book in my training regimen as required reading. It's as enjoyable as those easy runs and if you could only own one book on running this would be it.

The run book to end all run books

Talk about a read and a half. This book has everything you ever wanted to know about running from how to go slow to how to go fast and how to eat while going slow or fast. It also covers going short, long and how to make a workout plan. Ever wondered why muscles cramp? Or how muscles stretch or contract or the effect going down hill has on your quads? Read this book. Be prepared though because this is ALLOT of book, don't expect to knock this thing out in a weekend. It's the source of sources and has all of the information that websites and other books have been parroting for years now.

Not a book for the Novice Marathoner, but a GREAT Resource for the Experienced

For beginning marathoners, this is by NO means a book for you to find your answer to the perfect training (unless you are a marathon runner with an exercise science background). I don't believe Noakes intended this book to be read by a novice runner. The information is simply too overwhelming. Enjoy following a simple training plan and getting nutirition information from your local run specialty store (and let the coaches and running store do all of the reading between the lines)!

For coaches and experienced marathoners, this is a great book that summarizes research. At the same time, Noakes doesn't leave out the details of training that are too often thought to be common knowledge such as training apparel.

As a college coach, I enjoyed reading this book for the scientific side of running that Noakes can contribute because of his background in exercise science. I simply do not have time to read through individual research publications, as Noakes has done, and then compile the information by subject matter.

This book should remain on the shelf for those times when you need a source of reference. The science of running is constantly evolving (and certainly has since the publication of this book). Coaching runners is about trial and error. Coaches must understand that every athlete is going to react to a stimulus differently. Thus, this is a great resource but should NOT be treated as the only source of training for runners in the 10k and up.

About the Author
Professor Dougal Drysdale recently retired from the University of Edinburgh, where he maintains the position of Emeritus Professor of Fire Safety Engineering. Imperative for Fire Proffesionals

It is a very good review about principles of fire phenomena told from a critical perspective. You will find all you need in order to understand the most general concepts and how they were experimented and analyzed. However, sometimes you will feel that there are not enough examples of calculation. But it is very useful as a guide.

Broad overview of fire dynamics with a great deal of practical application

Drysdale's book is an excellent overview of fire dynamics for any fire protection engineer. While it is not truly exhaustive, you will be well-equipped to tackle a variety of fire dynamics problems based on the material presented. It also makes good supplemental material to the Fire Dynamics section in the 4th edition of the SFPE Handbook of Fire Protection Engineering.

I recommend this book to anyone working with children and teens - counselors, teachers and parents. Linda Chapman has integrated and illuminated the latest scientific research into brain function, attachment theory, trauma treatment, art and play therapy. She has created an inspiring and highly practical book illustrated with beautiful case studies. It is a joy to watch a master practitioner at work. The application of her methods reaches far beyond the field of trauma treatment. The Power of Art Therapy

I found this to be an outstanding book which crosses multiple disciplines. If one were interested to see what an evidenced-based treatment intervention looks like in art therapy, this is the book to get. Linda shows how traumatized children can be treated for acute trauma through a specific drawing-based intervention. The examples she provides comes from her research with children at UCSF and the Children's Hospital and Research Center in Oakland.

Linda Chapman is one of the foremost art therapists in the world and the eloquence she has in person is captured in an easy-to-read, precise writing style. Great, informative reading for anyone interested the power of art therapy.

Having worked with Richard Antony in various task contexts over a number of years, I am not surprised that this book provides an extremely clear and detailed descriptive review of concepts, methods, and issues related to the design of modern Data Fusion processes. Several years ago, with the domain of Data Fusion technologies having started in the 1980 s, researchers in the field considered the field maturing . Experience however has shown that both the problem domains that Data Fusion methods address and the multidisciplinary technologies that Data Fusion methods are grounded in have continued to evolve at a Moore s Law type of pace, and have required that Data Fusion researchers and developers continue to evolve and adapt their basic design and development guidelines. I cannot recommend this book highly enough; Fusion is an immature discipline and there have been several important books on the topic over the years. However, this one truly breaks new ground establishing new foundational theories for how we can deal with and combine soft data and information such as text and HUMAN reports with traditional measurements also known as hard data. These new concepts are coupled with the practicality of system capabilities and functioning prototypes based on the new theoretical foundations. The book provides truly unique and workable series of fusion services which going forward will be a great benefit to practitioners and developers who need them in their daily jobs and in the development of systems to support the analysts and decision makers. Further, because it is so accessible and readable many of the generalists and analysts who may have been frightened off by the dense mathematical nature of so many fusion tomes can gain much from this book. Richard Antony's new book on Data Fusion Support to Activity-Based Intelligence is a welcome addition to the data fusion literature. Antony, well known for his contributions to multi-sensor data fusion, and author of the 1995 text, Principles of Data Fusion Automation, is a clear domain expert regarding data, inferences, decision processes, and utilization of data fusion systems for military applications. While a number of existing texts provide details on target tracking, signal processing, pattern recognition and data fusion mathematics and algorithms, virtually none exhibit the domain expertise provided by Antony. Antony s previous text set the stage for development of automated processes for information fusion by identifying key types of information and knowledge needed for situation awareness and threat refinement. The new text provides further insight into these areas, particularly as they apply to the modern challenge of activity based intelligence (ABI). Antony describes the foundational information theory of ABI including the fundamental types of data, inferences sought, reasoning logic, and the mapping from sensor data to semantic level representations of situations. The book introduces a prototype system for context and fusion support and uses this prototype to explore high level reasoning and special functions such as high value entity discovery, exploring the characteristics and relationships between complex entities and the development of special information filters and alert functions. The book illustrates clearly the value of linking physical sensor data with human observations and context-based knowledge. His two chapters on spatial reasoning and temporal reasoning are of special value. Overall, I would strongly recommend this clearly written and insightful text. --David L. Excellent, Timely, and Important Book

Richard Antony’s book is a fascinating journey into the world of data fusion and intelligence. In today’s information-overload society, it is crucial that we have tools that can be used to make sense of the endless stream of both hard and soft data that is available. Mr. Antony provides us with just that, a way to learn the relationships among different entities in intelligence messages. He creatively utilizes several unclassified scenarios and accompanying messages of criminal and terrorist activities to illustrate his argument regarding the value of text-based information for developing Intel exploitation systems. His many tables and figures are quite impressive and demonstrate the careful thought and analysis that went into the writing of this book. I highly recommend Data Fusion Support to Activity-Based Intelligence for students, scholars, and intelligence professionals.

Undoubtedly, these Rules will wind up in a lot of Christmas stockings and Hanukkah packages, and hopefully, they will start some meaningful discussions between the kids and the grownups.

Well-deserved long review of a short but important book

For a book small enough to fit in a hip or jacket pocket, there’s a lot here to like. With its gold leaf-embossed, kelly green clothbound cover and attached gold woven cloth bookmark, _Rules For a Knight_ is readily portable and made for ease of use, and its contents are inspiring and entertaining enough that readers will want to keep it handy and return to it often.

In the “Editor’s Note”, Hawke explains that the book is his own reconstruction and interpretation of a professor’s literal translation (from Cornish) of a badly damaged letter, purportedly written by a 15th-century knight and Hawke ancestor to his children on the eve of his death in a historical battle, found in the Hawkes’ family farm basement in the early 1970s. Hawke clearly states that the authenticity of the letter has not been conclusively established and that, where he struggled to convey the knight’s thoughts, he borrowed from the writings and expressions of other “knights”, most of whom are 19th- and 20th-century authors, thinkers, leaders, and artists: Emily Dickinson, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Bob Dylan, Victor Hugo, Vince Lombardi, Nelson Mandela, Thich Nhat Hanh, Anais Nin, River Phoenix, and Mother Teresa, to name just a few. So the book makes no claim to originality or exclusivity.

The book consists largely of 20 knightly rules, (if you’re interested, a numbered list of the rules follows this review below) each presented in its own chapter fronted by an elegant black-and-white line drawing (by Hawke’s wife, Ryan) of an avian scene and supported by a pithy definition or explanation of how to apply the rule followed by a few pages of colorful narrative explaining how the meaning or importance of that rule was impressed upon the knight. In addition to the 20 chapters and the “Editor’s Note”, there are: a brief introduction in which the knight explains to his children why he’s writing this letter; a poem or song titled “The Ballad of the Forty-Four-Pointed Red Deer” following the 20th chapter which is referred to in and important to chapter 18, “Equality”; and a concluding “Special Thanks to Other Knights” listing the numerous individuals from whose writings Hawke has borrowed.

There are many good proverb-style statements scattered throughout the book supporting the knightly rules and imparting nuggets of wisdom. Some of them are quotably profound (“You are always in the right place at exactly the right time, and you always have been”) or enigmatic (“You are better than no one, and no one is better than you”). A few seem contrived or silly (“Anything that gives light must endure burning”), and of course there are some clich�s. I won’t list any as examples because I try hard to avoid clich�. One thing in particular I did not like was the long poem/song “The Ballad of the Forty-Four-Pointed Red Deer”. Although it may work metaphorically or allegorically, followed to its logical conclusion it is highly implausible, and as a poem, its rhythm, meter, and rhyme are amateurish and tortured. I also would have liked to have seen a facsimile of the original letter, or at least part of it, written by the knight as well as a copy of the professor’s translation from the original Cornish. Also, a bibliography to accompany the “Special Thanks to Other Knights” section for readers interested in further exploration of their thoughts would be nice. Those additions would be really cool but would perhaps detract from the book’s convenient compactness and portability. Maybe in a future expanded edition? (Hint, hint, Ethan Hawke!)

The story accompanying the rules is entertaining and should hold the attention of YA readers as well as adults who enjoy this type of literature, and the book should appeal to females as well as males. Several statements throughout the book make it clear that the author is writing to his daughters as well as his sons and that he equates ladyship with knighthood. As a wisdom-imparting or character-building manual, what I like most about _Rules For a Knight_ is that it is almost wholly devoid of religion. Yes, there are many characteristics of both Western and Eastern wisdom, spirituality, and philosophy here, but there are no explicit references to any particular belief system, church, or denomination (well, one, sort of, in Chapter 13, "Generosity", but it’s not blatant). That may be a big turn-off for Western readers who prefer that their values education be rooted in a particular religious tradition, but it’s a strong selling point for me. I intend to buy several copies for myself and to give as gifts to some of the younger people in my life, and I believe many readers will consider this book a great gift for graduating high schoolers.
