Finally a Frazetta sketchbook

The Frazetta Sketchbook is actually part of the Vanguard published series of sketchbooks. Before this there were John Romita, Al Williamson, Wally Wood, Jeffrey Jones, John Buscema, Neal Adams and Alex Horley.
This book is focused on the sketches, unlike the finished paintings you see from the other artbooks like Icon, Legacy and Testament.
There are sketches, coloured painting drafts and life drawings. Subjects are those easily associated with Frazetta such as barbarians, wild beasts, bosomy damsels, monsters, Death Dealer, Tarzan and Conan. Most sketches are accompanied by the finished paintings for comparison, with some text.
As with Frazetta, his lines and the way he poses his characters are always amazing.
Great book for the Frazetta fans and sketchbook collectors.

Great for any student of Frazetta!

There's something about a sketchbook that really shows you how great an artist really is. If you're like mine and love seeing how drawings start or like the nitty gritty rough stuff of how a idea comes to life then you'll love this book. It has rough and basic sketches of some of Frazetta's most famous paintings (like The Sea Witch for example) and really gives you insight on the thought process behind his work.
Some people won't like it because there's no shiny or fully colored pictures, and to each their own. But if you want to know what the foundations of all his painting's looked like and how such marvelous art came from a few gesture drawings, then you'll love this.
Only thing that really pissed me off is how complete Frazetta could make a drawing using only a few lines. I've been drawing most of my life and I can't get as much detail as he could sketching something out on a bar napkin. Great book!

Frank Frazetta.

My dad is a HUGE fan of Frazettas work so I decided to pick this up for his b-day. Personally, I haven't thumbed through it, but he says there are tons of pieces in there that he has not seen before.
